RADICAL TREATMENT AND IMMEDIATE RECONSTRUCTION OF FRONTO-ORBITO-SPHENOID FIBROUS DYSPLASIA

Abstract
The fronto-orbito-sphenoid fibrous dysplasia causes progressive facial disfigurement with frontal bossing, visual impairment and neurologic dysfunction.
The condition is believed to represent anomalous bone development.
The disease may be monostotic or pclyostotic and classically occurs in the first two decades of life, with retarded progress in adult life, but especially this pathology of cranial region is not spontaneously stopped and progressively worsened.
Treatment is sought for functional and cosmetic reasons. In the past, conservative management was advocated. However, the concept of radical resection, followed by immediate reconstruction for permanent eradication has been documented recently.
The authors performed radical resection and immediate reconstruction with autogenous calvarial bone graft in 4 cases of fronto-orbito-sphenoid fibrous dysplasia with satisfactory results.
